About Us
Tytherington Family Worship Church is an independent evangelical Christian church which was founded at the beginning of 1979 by four families who were keen to establish a centre for Christian outreach in the area. Our venue for 14 years was the local primary school on the Tytherington housing estate on the outskirts of Macclesfield, Cheshire.
There are at present around 120 members and the weekly congregation consists of all age groups. In 1992 planning permission was given for a church building to be erected in the middle of a large area of new houses which were being built in Tytherington just across the main road from the school. The building was started in September 1992 and the church was opened in June 1993 on Sandwich Drive, off Dorchester Way.
The building consists of the main church, able to seat 200 people, with a sound-proof screen at the rear which can be opened to accommodate a further 180 seats if needed. This area is used as a lounge for group meetings. There is also a large sports hall, 2 kitchens, 6 other meeting rooms, toilets and 4 storerooms.
The church is independent and evangelical and although it is not allied to a particular denomination, it has close links with the other churches in the town. It belongs to a national organisation called the Evangelical Alliance.
The church is led by seven elders and eight deacons and there is no paid minister. The elders are responsible for the spiritual teaching and growth of the members helped by the deacons who also look after the practical side of running the church.
Adult believers' baptism is offered for those who desire it but this is not a condition of membership. We do not practise infant baptism but we provide a service of dedication for babies and small children when parents can give thanks for the gift of the child and make promises to bring him or her up in the knowledge and love of God.
Both the church and elders are registered to conduct weddings.
We are currently revising the Church constitution and in conjunction with this are developing a handbook for use by our leaders and members.
